Congratulations, Graduates!

The Academy would like to congratulate all of the Neponset Campus 8th Grade Graduates of the Class of 2010! Thank you for being wonderful students, leaders, and friends! We are so proud of all your accomplishments and know that you will experience much success in the future. Best of luck to you and your families as you enter the next chapter of your life as Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy Alumni! We look forward to hearing about your high school experiences this fall.

Neponset Campus International Fair

The Neponset Campus held an International Fair on Friday, March 15, 2010 in the cafeteria. Every student from Ms. Tkachuk's Grade 6 and Grade 7 Social Studies classes researched a country, designed and created a presentation board with national images and facts, and presented their work to fellow students, teachers, and parents. Many students also dressed in their country's native style or provided a sampling of the nation's popular food. Grades 6 and 7 did a wonderful job! The Academy and Ms. Cameron would like to thank and congratulate all the students and Ms. Tkachuk and Ms. Corkery for their wonderful event! Keep up the great work! Neponset Campus Visited by New England Aquarium Penguin!

On Tuesday, April 13, the Neponset Campus was visited by a very special guest from the New England Aquarium--Roast Beef the penguin! Students in grades 2 through 4 assembled in the gymnasium, where the New England Aquarium educators introduced the students to Roast Beef, a nine year old penguin. The students learned about penguins from all over the world, asked questions about a penguin's daily life, and showed the educators all that they had learned about penguins in the weeks prior to the presentation. The Academy would like to thank the New England Aquarium and the sponsor of the visit, EMC Corporation, a major corporate contributor to New England Aquarium. Buddies Program

The youngest students of the Neponset campus participated in a wonderful Christmas project with their "buddies" on Tuesday, December 22, 2009. Students used graham crackers, frosting, and lots and lots of candy to make wonderful creations! What a fabulous centerpiece for the Christmas dinner table! Keep up the great work!

Coin Collection for the St. Ambrose Family Inn

While preparing for Thanksgiving Mass, students in K2 and their Grade 6 buddies once again collected coins to purchase books for the St. Ambrose Family Inn.  Over $400 was collected and many, many books, including those written in Spanish, were sent to the Inn.  We are so proud of our thoughtful students.

Neponset Campus Food Drive

This Thanksgiving season, the Neponset Campus of Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy participated in a food drive to benefit the food pantry of St. Brendan parish.  Many, many boxes and bags of canned goods and non-perishable items were delivered to the food pantry during the week of Thanksgiving.  We are so grateful to our generous families who certainly understand the true meaning of Thanksgiving!

Neponset Campus Elects Student Council

The Student Council for the Neponset Campus of Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy has been elected.  President Matt Ball, Vice President Erin O’Brien, Secretary Kailene Power, Treasurer Joseph Phoenix and elected class representatives from Grades 1-8 have already begun working on several wonderful projects.  A bake sale will be held on Tuesday, December 15 to benefit Toys for Tots.  Other projects for the future include:  a school store, dances, additional visits to the Bostonian Nursing Home and more.  We look forward to a great year of service!

Students Celebrate Veterans Day

The students of the Neponset Campus assembled on Monday, November 9, 2009 to celebrate Veterans Day. Ms. Cameron led the students in the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem and other patriotic songs. To honor, thank, and remember the veterans in the community, the students created a Wall of Honor, placing stars on the wall with the names of local veterans. The Neponset Campus' own Mr. Chris Twomey, a United States Marine, was honored by a star directly in the center of the wall.

First Grade Students Appear on Mass for All Saints Day

The first grade students of the Neponset Campus of Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy took part in the taping of the Mass for All Saints Day to be shown on Catholic TV Saturday, October 31, 2009.  As has been the tradition for many years at the former St. Ann School, the first grade students researched their patron or favorite saint and memorized a short description of that saint which included the saint’s important work and their feast day.  Dressed beautifully as their saint, the students recited their facts confidently.   Father Reed complimented the children on helping all to remember how important it is for us to remember how to live as Jesus wants us to live.  The children were also treated to a very interesting tour of the Catholic TV studios.

The saint presentations will be given again at the school’s November First    Friday Mass at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009.  A special thanks to the wonderful first grade teachers, Mrs. McKinnon and Sister Jean, and the parents of the students who worked together to prepare and support the students.
